Lexus Limousine is Luxury of the Future
Everybody wishes that they could predict the future. Imagine knowing what the future holds and being able to use this knowledge to your advantage. In the luxury car market knowing what rich, chief exec types are going to be driving in the future would make designing these them so much easier.
Some people think they already know what the cars of tomorrow will like. if you believe design student Jon Radbrink, they'll be driving cars like his. Swedish automotive design graduate Jon Rådbrink presented a concept for a catamaran-shaped car at the Royal College of Art graduation show in London last month.
Called the Lexus Nuaero, it features motors in the wheels and a touch-screen dashboard where the information and controls can be moved around. The Lexus Nuaero, is a never-going-to-be-made concept car, unlike the futuristic new Lexus LS600h, which you can buy. The car attempts to demonstrate what a large, lightweight luxury car might look like in the year 20-something-or-other.
The Nuaero doesn't get pedals or a steering wheel, but instead an aeroplane-style steering pad. In fact, the driving system is controlled solely by hand without the use of foot pedals; to brake, the driver pushes the steering wheel away from their body. “Since the car is powered by electrical motors found in each of the four wheels," says Radbrink, "there is no transmission; you brake intuitively by pushing the steering wheel away from the body."
Although we may not be able to predict future, relativity, like in Einstein’s theory, will still hold true. That is, no matter how sophisticated cars become there will always be those that offer that little bit extra than the base models. That extra space, comfort style and smoother ride - sounds like the car of tomorrow is like the limousines of today!
The Lexus Nuaero is just one of the concepts from the Royal College of Art Vehicle Design course, which features a bunch of outlandish creations plucked from various points along the parabola where madness and genius can only be differentiated by the perspective of the observer.
