State transportation officials confirmed today that Big Ten Transportation LLC lost its business license; there is an ongoing Michigan State Police investigation, regarding the company. The Lansing Company operated six vehicles as taxis and has been without a license since July 30, said Janet Foran, a spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of Transportation. Officials also seized limousine registration decals from three vehicles.
Apparently Big Ten was not carrying enough insurance on each vehicle. For example, one vehicle, which needed $2 million in coverage, had only $1.5 million. There are about 260 companies currently licensed as limousine or taxi services in Michigan. Such companies come and go, It's one of those types of business, Foran said.
