Limousine Licensing Advice
When a limo hire company works with authorities and obeys their regulations a positive outcome can be negotiated, when the rules need bending. Latest limo news is that a limousine hire firm has been allowed to carry on trading after council chiefs who originally tried to block the business’s application for a licence, bent their own rules.
Ironically, when Alan Bell tried to set up his hire firm in 2000, with a Lincoln Ford, he originally had his licence refused by Breckland Council. Refusing to accept the council’s decision, Bell fought an appeal and was allowed to set up Breckland's first limousine hire business, Bell's Limousines, from Scarning, near Dereham.
Well he must have been doing something right. Councillors on the appeals committee of Breckland decided to go against their policy on the age of limousines and allowed him to renew his licence, which ran out on August 30. This was despite the fact his Lincoln Ford is now more than 10 years old and therefore breached council policy. However, a condition of the licence is that the car is mechanically tested every six months.
Mr Bell, who had set up the firm after being made redundant by trailer maker Crane Fruehauf, now has two vehicles; the latest being built in 2000 and therefore conforming to the age limit regulations. A jubilant Mr Bell said: “It is marvellous, it is really good news. If they hadn't licensed it we could only use the car for weddings and funerals and you don't really want to use a white car for funerals.”
